BREAKING: San Clemente Rite Aid Shooter to be Booked for Attempted Murder
A man who fired a gun at a vehicle in a Rite Aid parking lot in San Clemente today, was captured by the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA—A morning shooting at a San Clemente Rite Aid on El Camino Real has one suspect in custody. The suspect, a 23-year-old male, was reportedly seen with a gun shooting at a vehicle as it fled the Rite Aid parking lot. He was apprehended by Orange County Sheriff's officers, after a brief foot chase through a nearby neighborhood.
"Heriberto Velasquez, a 23-year-old male, was in the parking lot of the Rite Aid on El Camino Real," Orange County Sheriff's Department, San Clemente Watch Commander, Lt. Dan Dwyer said. "He confronted a 31-year-old male victim who then drove away in a Ford Ranger. Velasquez then shot at the victim."
The vehicle was struck, according to Dwyer, but there were no injuries reported in the shooting.

"The suspect that is currently in custody is connected with the Rite Aid incident," Orange County Sheriff's Department public information officer Lt. Mark Stichter confirmed.
The initial incident was reported just before 9 a.m. when officers were called regarding a shooting at the Rite Aid on North El Camino Real. Officers were on scene in minutes.

"After Velasquez shot at a vehicle in the parking lot, he then set off on foot," Dwyer said. The suspect fled down Canada and Escalones, between homes and through backyards.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department set up a perimeter, and air support was used to help investigators locate the suspect.
The suspect was located inside a storage locker behind a San Clemente residence in the 100 block of Escalones, Dwyer said.
Velasquez initially dumped the weapon used in the shooting, according to Dwyer, but it was located on a stairwell of a property on the 100 block of West Canada.
"He is a gang member, and a parolee at large," Dwyer said. "Velasquez will be booked for attempted murder with gang enhancements."
