CERT Program Graduates San Clemente Residents
17 San Clemente residents recently graduated from the City's Community Emergency Response Team training program.

On Saturday morning, the City building up on Negocio appeared to be the scene of a disaster - but it was all a drill. Students from San Clemente High School’s AVID classes volunteered to play the part of disaster victims , complete with too-realistic “wounds” applied by expert Ryan Eckhart’s master theatrical touch with stage make-up. CERT volunteers spent 6 weeks and 20 hours in the FEMA-approved emergency training program with instructor and City Emergency Planner Katie Carpenter. ”Katie is an amazing instructor,” said Randy Took, voicing the opinion of all the new graduates. The program is designed to prepare members of the community to help out first responders in the event of a major disaster.
