City of San Clemente Hires a Second-in-Charge

An employee from the city of Long Beach will make the move south.

The city of San Clemente has hired an assistant city manager, officials announced today.

Erik Sund, currently assistant director of Business Services and Fleet for Long Beach, expects to make the move south by November, according to a city press release.

He has also held municipal positions with Irvine and Downey.

As assistant city manager, Sund will oversee Finance and Administrative Services and will team with City Manager Pall Gudgeirsson and executive management in providing services to the San Clemente community.

Gudgeirsson said he selected Sund after an exhaustive nationwide search.

“His insistence on having a can-do attitude and success at building positive collaborative relationships both internally and externally were big factors in my hiring decision. He has a reputation as a hard worker and comes highly recommended by outstanding references," Gudgeirsson said in the release.

Sund actually is replacing Gudgeirsson, who was promoted to city manager when George Scarborough retired in March

Sund will make $158,580 annually.
