Falling Boulders Shut Down Ortega Highway

Boulders five feet in diameter have fallen into the road, forcing CHP to halt the flow of traffic on the highway.

The California Highway Patrol has closed State Route 74, the Ortega Highway, between Orange and Riverside counties. Boulders that are “five feet in diameter” have fallen onto the road, and the CHP is not allowing general traffic or residents west of Lake Elsinore or east of La Pata Avenue/Antonio Parkway near San Juan Capistrano.
