Fatal Crash On Northbound I-5 After Tire Crashes Into Car
A person was killed when a tire bounced over the center divider and into a red Tesla.
SAN CLEMENTE, CA —A northbound vehicle was struck, and one person was killed Friday on the northbound 5-Freeway in San Clemente, California Highway Patrol reported.
A wheel and tire struck the driver of a red Tesla after it detached from a southbound big rig and struck the vehicle in the northbound lanes.
"The Tesla was hit by the tire after it bounced over the center divider" in California Highway Patrol dispatch reported.

The crash occurred about 9 a.m. at Avenida Magdalena, resulting in lane closures that continued to impact traffic two hours later, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Orange County Coroner's office was called to the scene.

The trucker believed involved in the crash reportedly stopped on the nearby Cristinitos offramp. Officials ordered a full inspection of the big rig, and a sig alert was called.
Traffic northbound on I-5 remained heavy as of noon, Friday.
The victim's name was not immediately released.
