Finding Art in the Ordinary, Disasters and Tinkerbell

1. Be on the alert: Monday is National AMBER Alert Awareness Day. The CHP reminds the public to get involved during an alert by listening to news reports, paying attention to highway message signs, and keeping an eye out for the suspect vehicle.

2. In case of disaster: The city of San Clemente is seeking participants for its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program. Residents and members of the business community will learn basic skills to save lives and protect property in the aftermath of a major disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available.

This includes training in basic disaster skills such as preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue and terrorism awareness.  The class meets on seven consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m., beginning Feb. 4 and finishing with a half-day drill on Saturday, March 22.

This is the eighth training session offered by the city, in partnership with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the Orange County Fire Authority. Participants are required to attend all class sessions. Program graduates are invited to join the city’s CERT Team.

3. Time to meet: The San Clemente Junior Woman’s Club is holding its monthly 
general meeting on from 6:30-9 p.m. Monday. All meetings are held at the RIO Adult Day Health Care Center, 2021 Calle Frontera, across from the Marblehead community. 

4. The Mystery of the Ordinary: That’s the name of the new exhibit from artist Michael Ward at Casa Romantica, which opens Tuesday. OPEN CASA’s meet and greet is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens. 

Admission to OPEN CASA is free to the public. The exhibit runs through Feb. 23, and admission is $5, free for Casa members. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

5. Make like Tinkerbell: You can fly through Disneyland this weekend as the park opens early for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon and other races for families and kids.
