Get Into The Spirit Of The City At San Clemente Day 2022

The City of San Clemente is hosting two family-friendly events this month to celebrate the annual San Clemente Day.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Are you looking to get into the spirit of your city? February is your month, San Clemente. The city announced its plans to hold the annual San Clemente Day 2022 on Feb. 26, with two family-friendly activities for residents to enjoy.

San Clemente Day 2022 kicks off at 8 a.m. for the fifth annual Kid's Fishing Derby. The annual derby promotes fishing for children of all skill levels and abilities, and is held on San Clemente's Municipal Pier, a historic fishing site for many.

The derby is open to children ages six through 13 and requires advanced registration. Fishing poles, bait and hooks are available while supplies last, and families are welcome to bring their own.

Registration with a pole rental is $10 per child and $5 per child if you are bringing your own fishing pole. The annual Kids Fishing Derby is sponsored by Dana Wharf Sport Fishing and Fish for Life, with support from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Each competing child will receive a T-shirt and a chance to compete in various categories, such as: biggest fish, most fish, most unusual fish, smallest fish and best catch.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the San Clemente Municipal Pier, and the derby begins at 9 a.m. To register, visit the city's website.

After the fishing festivities, the San Clemente is invited to join in on a free recreation swim at the San Clemente Aquatics Center, 987 Vista Hermosa. The swim runs from noon to 4 p.m., and attendees of all ages can swim in the pool, listen to music and play on the play structure.

Pool rules apply, the city said in a statement, and children under 17 years old must be with an adult.
