Golf Cart DUI Lands San Clemente Man In La Quinta Jail: Police
A suspected DUI was the reason behind a golf cart crash that catapulted a passenger from the vehicle in La Quinta.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA β A San Clemente man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after his passenger was ejected from the golf cart he was driving in La Quinta, authorities said Monday.
It happened just before 2:45 p.m. on Oak Tree Boulevard near Pete Dye, said La Quinta police Sgt. Chris Frederick.
Officers determined the golf cart driver, identified as 41-year-old Stephen Southam, "made an unsafe turning movement" while southbound on Oak Tree Boulevard, Frederick said. A 59-year-old man in the front seat was ejected from the golf cart.

The passenger was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening, the sergeant said.
Southam was booked into the Indio jail on suspicion of DUI, Frederick said.

Bail was set at $50,000 and Southam was released Monday, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department inmate records. He is due in court March 21.
