Lake Forest Car Theft Suspect Found at San Clemente Check Cashing Facility

San Clemente, CA — A car theft that started in Lake Forest ended in San Clemente when the suspect was found outside a check cashing facility.

The incident began after an "unknown type of robbery, involving an unnamed weapon at a hotel in Lake Forest," according to Orange County Sheriff's Department Lt. Mark Stichter. The incident was captured on video by several Twitter users.

Though Twitter users erroneously reported that the incident was a hostage situation, or a robbery of the check cashing facility, the Orange County Sheriff's Department ensured neither had taken place.

"At this time, there is very little information as to the time of the original incident or the type of vehicle that was stolen," Stichter said. "There was no robbery at the Check Cashing Spot."

Deputies discovered the stolen car in San Clemente and surrounded the suspect. Reports state that the suspect may have been armed at the time of arrest.

He surrendered, peacefully, and was arrested on suspicion of car theft.
