OCFA, FADD And San Clemente High School Prepare For Every 15 Minutes

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) will be one of several agencies participating in a mock DUI crash at San Clemente High School. Participating agencies will include: OCFA,

OCSD, CHP, Friends Against Drinking and Driving (FADD), Mission Hospital, Trauma Intervention Program (TIP), O’Connor Mortuary, Care Ambulance, and S & K Towing.

This event is designed to teach students the dangers of drinking and driving in a very real way.

"Roadways will be closed, helicopters will circle as a simulated car crash with an overturned vehicle the extrication of a trapped person in a second car by firefighters using the “Jaws of Life” according to OCFA.

"There will also be simulated scene treatment of patients with both traumatic and fatal injuries," Capt. Larry Kurts of the OCFA said, adding that law enforcement officers will also demonstrate a simulated field sobriety test.

“It is a very realistic and powerful event for all the students, faculty and parents watching. This is a very important message that can save lives,” says OCFA Captain Steve Concialdi, who is also the FADD founder. “We hope the students learn from other student’s mistakes and not drink and drive.”
