Road Closures in San Clemente Area for Saturday's Ironman

Some 2,300 participants are expected. [BREAKING]

SAN CLEMENTE, CA – The 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside takes place Saturday from 7 a.m. to about 12 noon along the coast between Oceanside and San Clemente with a projected 2,300 people riding bikes into town from San Onofre State Park, according to police.

San Clemente Police Services will be closing the Cristianitos Road on-ramps, off-ramps and overpass will be closed, and traffic delays in the area and along Old Highway 101 are expected.

Motorists are advised to use Avenida Califia to access that area.

"If you absolutely have to access the area (to surf Trestles...) you may be required to drink a protein drink, wear blade type sunglasses and paint numbers on your body," the department said. "OK, maybe not. In all honesty, it is best to just avoid the area ... unless the waves are really gnarly."

SWIM: At the North End of Transition by the Harbor Pelican Deli Mart.

BIKE: The majority of the bike course is on Camp Pendleton and not accessible. Spectators can view the transition area along Harbor Drive.

RUN: This is a two loop run course. Spectators can view the athletes heading in and out of transition. It is a 1 mile walk to the pier / finish line area. Spectators an walk on the sidewalk at Strand / Boardwalk and walk part of the run course.
