San Clemente Child Killed in Truck Race Tragedy in Mexico

An eight-year-old boy was killed and his mother was injured when a trophy truck ran off-course during the Baja 500 in Mexico.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA - A San Clemente boy was reportedly killed when a trophy truck veered off course and into bystanders during the Baja 500 in Mexico.

According to a report by NBC San Diego, a 28-year-old woman was injured and her son, 8, was killed when a Monster truck driven by a Utah plowed into the crowd near downtown Ensenada.

Video of the crash shows a scene of chaos and confusion as the truck comes over a ridge and teeters along a hillside before losing control and plowing into the screaming crowd.

According to NBC the crash occurred just after 10:30 a.m., and driver Todd Pedersen issued a statement: "I'm devastated by the tragic accident that happened this weekend. My heart goes out to the family at this time.”
