SAN CLEMENTE CITY BEACHES & WATER, BEACH TRAIL, AND SEA SUMMIT TRAIL CLOSED
4/7/2020…San Clemente, California… The City of San Clemente continues to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and take the appropriate actions to prevent its spread. Since the Governor issued statewide executive orders to shelter in place, a number of people have continued to travel to San Clemente beaches, causing overcrowding of beachfront and the Beach Trail. In addition, all San Diego County and Los Angeles County beaches are closed, as well as beaches in Seal Beach and Laguna Beach, which is contributing to higher use of the City’s beaches. As a result, beginning April 8 all city-owned beaches, City coastal waters, Beach Trail, and Sea Summit/Marblehead Costal Trails will be closed to public access until further notice.

Governor Newsom’s stay at home order permits outdoor activity as long as a safe social distance of six-feet is maintained from people who are not part of the same household. Although many of our citizens are self-regulating and practicing social distancing, the increased number of people gathering on San Clemente beaches has created more opportunities for community spread of the virus. Closing these areas is prudent to reduce the potential spread of the virus and protect the public.
In order to enforce the closures, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Marine Safety, Code Enforcement, and Park Rangers will increase monitoring. Individuals who do not comply with the closure orders may receive citations.
The closures will go into effect Wednesday, April 8, at 4:00 a.m. and will remain in effect until further notice. For updated information, visit the City of San Clemente website at www.san- clemente.org/coronavirus.
