San Clemente Couple Victimized by Con Man Threatening Puppies

A con artist posing online as a dog breeder, threatened the puppies a San Clemente couple paid for if they didn't send more money.

A San Clemente couple is serving as a cautionary tale after being scammed by a man claiming to be a dog breeder selling Dalmatian puppies online.

Thinking they were buying two puppies, Elena Nauman and her husband followed the instructions of a breeder they found on Recycler.com. The day after Christmas, Nauman bought a prepaid $500 money card and gave the code to the breeder, she told CBS News. It wasn’t long before he was demanding another $500 for shipping and angrily threatening that the dogs would die if she didn’t send the money for shipping.

“He started to threaten us too. ‘We’re going to dump the puppies. We’re going to sell the puppies,’” Nauman told CBS. “And calling us and screaming at us on the phone that he wants the $500, and he can’t ship [the puppies] without, and if he does they’re going to die.”
