San Clemente Moves to Level 2 Water Alert--What this Means for Residents
San Clemente celebrates their water conservation efforts by lowering to a Level 2 Water Alert--but what does that mean for residents?

San Clemente, CA--On June 24, the City of San Clemente announced that the city will shift from a Level 3 Water Warning to a Level 2 Water Alert.
“I am pleased to see our residents do an exceptional job of exceeding the State Water Resources Control Board’s mandated 24-percent reduction in water use. San Clemente achieved a higher cumulative conservation standard of 26-percent for the period of June 2015 to April 2016,” said Mayor Bob Baker.
Reduction to Level 2 Water Alert will remove penalties for excessive water use, and enable the City to continue to promote water conservation since water levels in the Colorado River Basin are nearing emergency storage levels and much of the State of California remains in a drought," the report stated.

The City is able to declare a change in water conservation because the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the agency that San Clemente relies highly on for imported water, has indicated that it has sufficient water supply from Northern California to meet the water needs of Southern California, including the City. Due to the fact that California remains in a drought, the City implemented a Level 2 Water Alert to actively promote 10-20-percent conservation.
Major restrictions that are being lifted as a result of City Council’s action to reduce the conservation level, include:- Removal of excess water use penalties.
- Removal of the prohibition on planting new material and establishing turf.
- Prohibition on charity car washes.
- Hosing or washing down structures.
Irrigation restrictions from two days per week are changed to three days per week
from March 1 to November 30.
