San Clemente Pins Huge Defeat on South Coast Rival Trabuco Hills

San Clemente dominated Trabuco Hills, 70-3, in the South Coast League opener for both wrestling teams Tuesday night at San Clemente High.

The Tritons, No. 10 in the CIF Southern Section Wrestling Advisory Committee's preseason rankings, won 13 of 14 matches and recorded eight pins.

The match of the night was at 130 pounds between San Clemente's John Castellini and Tabuco Hills' Garret James.

Tied at 2-2 after the second round, Castellini successfully executed a two-point maneuver to pull out a hard-fought 4-2 victory. 

San Clemente's Hayden Yacobucci, the Orange County Wrestling Coaches Assn.'s third-ranked wrestler in the 215-pound weight class, got the action going for the Tritons by quickly pinning Brawley Osborne in the night's first match.

Afterward, Yacobucci said he hoped that the Tritons' dominating performance onn opening night would cause a ripple throughout the South Coast League.

"We needed this," he said. "Maybe it will intimidate Laguna Hills a little more, because that's our next dual. We needed to be on our best game today so Laguna will see that we beat [Trabuco Hills] 70-3 and will be a little scared when we go against them in two weeks."
