San Clemente Reminds Residents To Stay Safe During The Independence Day Holiday

The City reminds residents to stay safe during the Independence Day holiday
7/1/2020…San Clemente, California…The Fourth of July holiday weekend is quickly approaching and residents and visitors are reminded that the use of all fireworks, including Safe & Sane fireworks, are strictly prohibited within city limits. The use of illegal fireworks can cause damage to property and do significant harm to people and animals. San Clemente Police Services will be actively patrolling and enforcing for this type of activity throughout the weekend. If you experience illegal fireworks in your neighborhood, please call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at (949) 770-6011.

The City’s fireworks display will be hosted at 9 p.m. from the Vista Hermosa Sports Park and will be live streamed. For the safety of the community, the sports park, including ball fields, the aquatics center, and surrounding trail, will be closed to all public access beginning July 3 at 1 p.m. thorough July 4 at 11 p.m. The City urges residents to stay home, avoid gatherings, and celebrate only with members of their households. As households celebrate Independence Day, please remember to take all necessary safety precautions to protect you and members of your household. The City has compiled a list of reminders and precautions for encouraging a safe and healthy Fourth of July.
BEACH SAFETY
The City recognizes the beach is a popular destination on the Fourth of July. Here are some practical steps you can take to help ensure the safety of yourself and your family while at the beach this time of year:
- Check with the lifeguards on current conditions before entering the water.
- Swim near a lifeguard.
- Never swim alone.
- Swim sober.
- Never dive head first into unknown waters or into shallow breaking waves.
PET SAFETY
- Keep pets indoors in a quiet area, or run the TV or music to drown out outside sounds.
- Remove any items that your pet could destroy or that would be harmful if chewed.
- If you know that your pet is distressed by loud noises, consult your veterinarian in advance.
- Be sure your pets are wearing identification tags, are microchipped, and are licensed with updated information.
GRILLING & OUTDOOR ACTIVITY SAFETY
- Check gas grill hoses for cracks, holes and leaks.
- Keep children away from grills.
- Gas leaks, blocked tubes, and propane tanks can be a cause of grill fires and explosions.
- Keep the grill at least two feet away from decks, siding, branches and any outdoor equipment that can catch fire quickly.
- Protect yourself from the sun. Use sunscreen.
- With weather warming up, reminder to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
