San Clemente Shoreline Project Gets $500K Boost

Federal funding passed for an ongoing sand replenishment project in San Clemente to ease beach erosion and protect the rail corridor.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA β€”San Clemente's 3,000 feet of shoreline will be protected thanks to a new grant from The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, officials say. Over $500,000 in federal funding for the Planning, Engineering, and Design phase of the San Clemente Shoreline Project, Rep. Mike Levin said in a recent press release.

The San Clemente Shoreline Project focuses on protecting the Los Angeles– San Diego – San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor tracks that run immediately adjacent to the San Clemente coast.

The project will serve to protect "roads, buildings, infrastructure, and most importantly, continue to focus on the recreational use of San Clemente's coastline.

The engineers will add 251,000 cubic yards of sand from Linda Lane Beach to T-street Beach, south of the San Clemente Pier.

The funding allocated by the Army Corps represents the full federal funding needed to complete the phase for the San Clemente Shoreline Project. This includes environmental permits and two years of environmental monitoring and surveys.
