San Clemente Sunrise Rotary Hosts Merry After-Christmas Party for Deaf Students

Lia (name changed) was seven  years old before she could communicate with her parents. Born deaf into Mexico’s underprivileged class, she had no language and they had no signing skills. When they heard about Rancho Sordo Mudo, they traveled many hours to reach the school to see if Lia could attend the free boarding school in the Guadelupe Valley,  south of Tecate, Mexico. Now Lia can communicate with her family members and is on her way to becoming a productive member of society, learning a trade that will enable her to earn a living.

Recently, 15 members of San Clemente’s Sunrise Rotary Club traveled to Rancho Sordo Mudo (RSM) to hold their annual Merry After-Christmas Party for the deaf students. After 15 years, this is still one of SC Sunrise Rotary Club’s most cherished projects.
