Sand Barrel Crashes Cause Overnight SigAlert in San Clemente

Part of the San Diego (5) Freeway was closed when several drivers hit the offramp sand barrels in San Clemente.

No one was hurt overnight, but the San Diego (5) Freeway was a mess when a series of cars crashed into the freeway sand barrels in San Clemente.

The California Highway Patrol had issued a SigAlert for the far- right lane of the northbound 5 Freeway and the Avenida Vista Hermosa offramp in after multiple vehicles hit the sand barrels.

The SigAlert, which was declared shortly after 1 a.m., lasted for about 2 and a half hours. There is no word yet on what caused the series of sand barrel crashes.
