On Saturday, June 7th, San Clemente Junior Woman’s Club (SCJWC) member Paula Oblen, along with her team through a partnership with Special Spaces revealed a new special space to five year old Raelyn. Raelyn has been battling leukemia since the age of two.
Special Spaces is a national non-profit founded for the development and construction of room makeovers for kids with life-challenging illnesses. Special spaces along with designers and community volunteers create rooms for these children where they can dream or imagine a safe place to heal and play….a place to find peace and comfort while addressing their medical needs.
Paula, a designer by trade, met Denise Sutherland, Special Spaces representative at the SCJWC March Philanthropy meeting where the Club was giving Special Spaces a monetary donation. The two teamed up and involved the SCJWC and the result was magical.

Through donations from volunteers from the Club and in the community, including Jed Stamen - Hunter Construction, Paul Kearns - Kearns Woodworking, Juan Magana - Professional Painting, Dunn Edwards Paints, Fast Signs, and a pizza donation from Izza Pizzeria, the event was a huge success.
The SCJWC is a small, but mighty organization comprised of dedicated volunteer women who logged over 3,500 volunteer hours last year alone. These ladies work to support their San Clemente Community while building friendships and relationships along the way. This project is an example of what the Club can do through partnerships with other charitable organizations.
