See Conditions At San Clemente Beach, Pier Right Now

Take a two-minute vacation as you social distance during coronavirus, & watch live streaming video of the southern California coast.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA β€” A few seagulls flew in front of the live-streaming pier view camera Tuesday afternoon. A handful of surfers bobbed on the waves while a family-group of four strolled beneath the pier, as seen from the camera aimed at the San Clemente coast. It is what social distancing looks like, mid-week in the city of San Clemente.

Over the weekend, crowds descended on the beach as non-coastal visitors attempted to beat the heat, earning the ire of Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Two days later, the city determined whether or not to make changes to their current open beach plan.

On Tuesday afternoon, the social distancing model appears to be working. Patch watched as a lifeguard quickly disbanded a group that gathered and loitered a bit too long in front of the lifeguard station.

The picture painted on Tuesday is much more representative of life in this coastal community than what was seen on Saturday and Sunday, according to residents.

Gene James, a city council member, issued a social distancing message on Monday concerning San Clemente's trails and paths.

"We understand that many residents relish the outdoors and depend on the open spaces," he said. San Clemente has miles of hiking trails and trailheads that are open for use, as long as residents continue to follow the rules.

"We are asking visitors to be mindful of social distancing, he said.

If trails or beaches feel too crowded, stay home.
