Shark Sightings Close Beaches In San Clemente
At least five great white sharks were sighted in San Clemente Monday, closing area beaches on the hottest day of the week.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — It's hard to visit the beaches anymore without scanning the ocean for shark fins. Visitors in San Clemente were not disappointed on Monday, when over five great white shark sightings were logged, forcing the area lifeguards to close the beaches through the end of the day.
The first sighting of an 8- to 9-foot Great White shark was made by lifeguards at the pier about 10:30 a.m., said Marine Safety Lt. Rod Mellott.
"Four more shark sightings were reported, the most recent coming at 3:45 p.m.," Mellott said.
