SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Some of Orange County's finest gathered Wednesday to run with torch for the Special Olympics, it was reported on Twitter. Hundreds of officers from local, county, state, federal, and military agencies went above the call of duty and run in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg for Special Olympics Southern California, according to the Special Olympics website.
Officers carried the "Flame of Hope" 1,500 miles and through 200 Southern California communities in May and June.
The Final Leg will end at the 2018 Summer Games Opening Ceremony, where the torch will light the cauldron to symbolize the start of the Games.

Through the Final Leg, the officers raise awareness and funds for athletes of Special Olympics Southern California. They also educate the community about the gifts, talents and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities and promote unity and respect for all.
