Pedestrian Hit, Killed by Train at Capistrano Beach, OCFA Says
A pedestrian was struck by a train near San Clemente on Thursday afternoon.

DANA POINT, CA — A man was hit and killed by an oncoming train on Thursday afternoon, according to fire officials. Witnesses say the man reportedly stepped onto the tracks in front of a southbound Amtrak train at Capistrano Beach.
"A man in his 50s was struck by an oncoming train," Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz said. "He was declared deceased by on site medics."
Pacific Coast Highway at Capistrano Beach, lined with Orange County Sheriff's Department and other official vehicles on Thursday afternoon. The scene was described by Julie Perguson, a San Clemente resident and artist.

"There were multiple sheriff's [deputies] and firefighters scouring the tracks at Beach Road with body bags," Perguson said. "The Beach Road guard gate confirmed that someone died."
The name of the deceased man has not been released, and the Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident, according to Lt. Mark Stichter.
