Woman Finds Her Childhood Essay in Bible After 65 Years

Marion Shurtleff is seeking the previous owner of a secondhand Bible that held her childhood essay.

After 75-year-old Marion Shurtleff brought home a used Bible from a local bookstore, she made a discovery that brought her to tears. Flipping through the Bible, she found three yellowed pieces of paper, which, to her amazement, turned out to be a childhood essay she had written 65 years ago, the Ocean County Register reported.

"I call it my OMG story," she said. "I started shaking. I started crying.”

Shurtleff wrote the essay to earn a Girl Scout merit badge in her hometown of Covington, KY—more than 2000 miles from her current San Clemente home.

Now she’s trying to track down the person who owned the Bible before her.

"I just want to know," she said. "Maybe it's someone I should know, someone I should be bringing into my life.”
