A Football Championship AND a Mayors' Bet on the Line Saturday

The mayors of San Juan Capistrano and Fontana have a little wager riding on Saturday's game.

Oh, it’s on!

The mayors of San Juan Capistrano and Fontana are throwing down, making a small wager on the outcome of Saturday’s East Valley Division football championship. That’s when No. 1 Fontana Jurupa Hills squares off at home against San Juan Capistrano’s very own St. Margaret’s Episcopal School.

“I say, Go St. Margaret’s,” Mayor Sam Allevato said Tuesday in one of his first remarks after being selected among his fellow councilmen to be mayor.

So here’s the bet. If St. Margaret’s wins, Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren has to come to San Juan Capistrano, enjoy a day at the Mission and lunch with Allevato in the Los Rios Historic District. If Jurupa Hills wins, Warren will host Mayor Sam Allevato at the March NASCAR race at Auto Club Speedway.

Personally, we think even if Jurupa Hills loses, Acquanetta wins. If St. Margaret’s loses … well …

“St. Margaret’s will pull this off, I’m sure,” Allevato said.

Meanwhile, the Jurupa Hills team is called the Spartans. St. Margaret’s is the Tartans. Saturday night’s announcer is going to have fun!

The game will begins at 7 p.m. at Jurupa Hills High School, 10700 Oleander Ave. in Fontana. San Juan Capistrano Patch will have a live widget that will keep you posted for those who can’t make the trip.
