Zafaranieh Mediterranean Cuisine To Open In San Juan Capistrano (whatnow.com) — A new Mediterranean restaurant, Zafaranieh Mediterranean Cuisine, is planned for 31952 Camino Capistrano, adding another dining option right in the heart of San Juan Capistrano's commercial corridor. While the opening date and menu details aren't public yet, the spot will serve residents and visitors along this busy stretch, with more information expected as the launch gets closer.
2. Gibby Fire burns 216 acres, closes Ortega Highway (myvalleynews.com) — A fast-moving brush fire near Ortega Highway forced a full closure of State Route 74 between Gibby Road, just east of San Juan Capistrano, and Decker Canyon Road. Firefighters held the Gibby Fire to 216 acres with no injuries or structural damage, but nearby Caspers Wilderness Park closed and drivers were urged to find alternate routes between Orange and Riverside counties.
3. 5 upcoming Orange County restaurants to put on your radar (ocregister.com) — San Juan Capistrano diners may be interested that The Shore, which already has a location in town, is part of a wave of new Orange County restaurant openings, including chef Michael Campbell expanding his White Rooster concept to Corona del Mar. The roundup also details new spots in Aliso Viejo, La Habra, Costa Mesa, and Dana Point that locals might visit.
4. The get back: Oak Hills football fulfills 'revenge' promise, beats Rancho Cucamonga (visaliatimesdelta.com) — Oak Hills football avenged last season's loss to Rancho Cucamonga and now turns its attention to a Sept. 10 rematch against JSerra Catholic in San Juan Capistrano. Local fans can expect a fired-up visiting team looking to erase another close defeat, with the Bulldogs' defense and special teams already proving they can swing big games.
