Open Enrollment Time at Oxford Preparatory Academy

Oxford Preparatory Academy-South Orange County, a collegiate-inspired, kindergarten-eighth-grade charter school in the Capistrano Unified School District, announces its open enrollment period for the 2012-2013 school year.

Because of high demand for the tuition-free public charter school, Oxford Prep-SOC is expanding its enrollment to 772 for the coming year. Open enrollment for new students will begin April 2 and will close on May 1.  If student applications exceed available openings, a random public lottery will be held at a date to be determined.

Parents wishing to enroll their children in Oxford Preparatory Academy-South Orange County must attend one mandatory pre-enrollment parent information meeting, and submit a completed student admissions application at one of the scheduled Application Intake dates.  

Parents of a current Oxford Prep-SOC student who wish to enroll a sibling are not required to attend a pre-enrollment parent information meeting, and may submit an admissions application at the school office during regular school hours.

The charter petition for Oxford Preparatory Academy-South Orange County was approved unanimously by the CUSD Board of Trustees, and opened on Sept. 6, 2011, at 23000 Via Santa Maria in  Mission Viejo.  

Because of strong community support and high demand for its program, the CUSD Board of Trustees voted on Jan. 25 to allow Oxford Prep-SOC to expand its enrollment to 772 students.

Founded in Chino Valley by respected administrator Sue Roche, Oxford Prep-SOC is open to all students in the state of California, with priority enrollment given to students within CUSD.

Its philosophy that all children are gifted is based on Howard Gardner's acclaimed Theory of Multiple Intelligences, which postulates that people learn in at least eight different ways. Gardner's eight intelligences include: linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal and naturalist.  

By utilizing this theory in its instructional approach, Oxford Preparatory Academy is able to increase academic retention and produce optimal educational success for its students. Its school-wide, collegiate-inspired theme further emphasizes the pursuit of higher learning and a rigorous curriculum.  

Oxford Preparatory Academy's Chino Valley campus, which opened in September 2010, earned an API score of 957 in its inaugural year.  The API score for Oxford Prep-SOC will be released in September 2012.
