The Shea Center, ranked as one of the leading therapeutic riding facilities in the country, has summer openings for volunteers age 14 and older.
This highly regarded San Juan Capistrano-based equestrian facility helps improve the lives of people with disabilities through therapeutic horse-related programs.
“Volunteers at the Shea Center are the backbone of being able to serve more than 200 weekly clients during our busiest summer session,” says Janelle Robinson PT, Shea Center director of therapeutic programs. “It’s a great exchange. Young people do something truly meaningful in their summer, our young clients benefit from these community volunteers.”

The Shea Center's call for summer volunteers gives students and families an opportunity to help with the horses, and work with the riders and the center's professional staff. Volunteers are needed throughout June, July and August and will receive the required training. This is a popular way for high school students to give back to the community and counts toward community service requirements.
The nonprofit J.F. Shea Therapeutic Riding Center serves individuals with more than 60 disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and developmental delay. It draws its clients and volunteers from throughout Orange County with the greatest concentration in South County.
