Are You Driving Distracted? OCSD Reminds Of Texting Dangers
April is Distracted Diving Awareness Month. Are you guilty of doing these things while driving?

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA โ It only takes a minute of distraction to change your life forever. This month, in April 2017, Orange County Sheriff's Officers are reminding drivers of the dangers of driving distracted.
Distracted Driving Awareness Month, orchestrated by the National Safety Council, reminds all that all of the technology available at a driver's fingertips is proven to increase the risks of a vehicle crash.
"The National Safety Council observes April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month to draw attention to this epidemic," they said. "NSC wants to empower you to put safety first and just drive."

People can take steps to partake of the Distracted Driving Awareness "Just Drive" campaign by pledging to drive "cell free."
Cell Phones are a top distraction according to NSC. Hand Free devices are not the solution, as the brain remains distracted by the conversation.

"You can pledge to your child and loved ones that you will be an attentive driver," they said. "Pledge online and through social media to 'Just Drive' -- not just for your safety, but for others, as well.
Here's how:
Fill out the pledge to Just Drive for your own safety and for others with whom you share the roads.

Choose to not drive distracted in any way. How? Don't:
- Have a phone conversation โ handheld, hands-free, or via Bluetooth
- Text or send Snapchats
- Use voice-to-text features in my vehicleโs dashboard system
- Update Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, Vine or other social media
- Check or send emails
- Take selfies or film videos
- Input destinations into GPS (while the vehicle is in motion)
- Call or message someone else when I know they are driving
