Booms Rattle Homes In South Orange County

Did your house shake and rattle today in San Clemente, South Orange County? Camp Pendleton warned of "sounds of freedom" bombing this week.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — All was still, quiet, and then...BOOM. The windows shook, the house rattled on its frame. Was it an earthquake? A sonic boom? No. On Monday, and for the next several days, Camp Pendleton has warned of the sounds of freedom coming your way.

Areas in the "Whiskey Zulu impact area could hear the live fire and booming rounds intermittently starting Saturday, over the weekend. Those live fire, mortar, mine clearing and ammunition rounds were scheduled to continue through late Wednesday night, according to a Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base spokesperson.

Expect more munitions fire on Tuesday, beginning at 6 a.m. when live fire exercises will once again rattle our windows in their frames, pausing overnight to resume on Wednesday, at midnight.
