Are you vacation deprived? How Americans compare to other countries in earning and using their vacation days.

How much vacation time do you take? When you do take vacation, do you stay connected to your work by email and voicemail?
A 2011"Vacation Deprivation Study" found that Europeans and Brazilians beat us Americans at the relaxation game. The average European earns 25-30 vacation days in a given year and tends to use them all. Brazilian workers receive, and take, 30 vacation days.
Americans earned a median of 14 vacation days and took 12. However, we're not the most deprived… Japanese workers earned 11 vacation days and used only five of them.

The study reports that only 25 percent of Americans check their email and voicemail regularly while on vacation. I'm a firm believer in disconnecting while on vacation, but this low figure surprised me.
More than 50 percent of French, Japanese, Indian and Italian workers stay very connected to their work while on vacation.

What keeps people from taking vacations? Twenty-two percent of folks feel they can't afford it and 20 percent said they just failed to plan for a vacation.
