Capistrano District Students Reenact Murder For OCSD Explorers

These Capistrano Unified School District students are working with Orange County Sheriffs Department for a forensics project.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Capistrano Unified School District is helping local law enforcement this week through a training exercise that mixes high school actors with Orange County Sheriff's Department explorers program. On Monday morning, OCSD vehicles wereseen around Aliso Niguel High School, drawing attention to the exercise.

"Forensic science students from three district high schools worked alongside FBI agents, arson investigators, lab technicians and bloodhounds as part of a realistic crime scene re-enactment," a spokesperson for the exercise told Patch. "Students participating in the Forensics Forum are part of Capistrano Unified’s College and Career Advantage Program that provides a real-work experience to inform their college decisions and career pathways."

Capistrano Unified’s Forensic Science courses explore relevant scientific and technological principles as well as techniques are used to solve crimes.

"The courses include a wide variety of laboratory methods and is designed with Next Generation Science Standards in mind, such as critical thinking to solve problems in real-world situations," they said. "Many students who participate plan to pursue a career in forensic science."
