Capistrano Unified School District Registration For Secondary Special Education Program Options

All secondary special education programs and services will be available in both program formats.

Dear CUSD Secondary Families,

To ensure that we are prepared to open school with the options chosen by our families when on-campus instruction can safely resume, we need to once again ask you to review the following information and registration options for your student.

Grades 6-12 Program Choices:

  • Program A: 50% on-campus learning and 50% online independent learning.
  • Program B: 100% online with daily teacher interaction, but not live teaching.
  • All secondary special education programs and services will be available in both program formats.

Deadline for Program Selection : Friday, July 31, 2020

Next Steps :

  • If you already selected a choice and want to stay with it, there is nothing to do.

What if I want to Change Options once School Begins?

  • Families that wish to change their program during the school year may do so only during specific times:
  • For grades 6-8: Dependent on space, program adjustment may occur at the quarter and at the semester.
  • For grades 9-12: Dependent on space, program adjustment may occur at the 6 week mark of the first semester, at the semester, and at the 6 week mark of the second semester.
  • Note : Moving from Program A to Program B can occur at any time.
    • Not all on-campus classes will be available online.
    • The student's teacher may be from another school.
    • School sites will assist with changes in these cases.

What if I want to Change my Option once Classes have started?

  • Families who wish to change programs during the course of the school year can do so only during specific dates:
  • For grades 6-8: Depending on space, program changes may occur at the end of the trimester and at the end of the semester.
  • For grades 9-12: Program changes may occur at the end of week 6 of the first semester, at the end of the semester, and at the end of week 6 of the second semester.
  • Note : Transfer from Program A to Program B can occur at any time.
    • Not all classes taught on campus will be available online.
    • The student's teacher may be from another school.
    • In these cases, schools will assist with the changes.
