Capistrano Unified School District Reopening School Plan Recommendations

Dear CUSD Families,

As you read in the Superintendent’s message sent to you earlier today, our Trustees want our schools reopened and we want to return to normal as soon as we are allowed. As we promised, you can now review the recommendations for the District Board of Trustees regarding initial plans for re-opening schools in August.

These plans are published online in preparation for our June 17, 2020 Board of Trustee meeting.

The recommendations on initial plans for reopening schools have been developed based on the values of our families (shared through the family survey) and our Board of Trustees and will ensure a strong focus on core educational priorities for our young people.

As you will see in the document, staff recommends Option #3 of the initial Reopening Schools Plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Next week, we will focus on the instructional model we will put into place as we reopen in the fall. Newly required health and safety guidelines will not be adopted until we are closer to reopening school, as these guidelines are constantly changing. We continue to wait for the final health and safety regulations from Orange County Department of Health. At this time, we are using guidance provided by the California Department of Public Health to inform our work.

Board of Trustee Meeting Wednesday, June 17

The Board of Trustees will hold a Board Meeting on Wednesday, June 17. Closed Session begins at 5:00 p.m. and the public portion of the meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. The agenda for the Board meeting is posted here. Members of the public are welcome to provide comments with the following options:

• To provide oral communication on specific agenda items via telephone, please register here by 5:00 p.m. on June 17. You will be asked to register your email address and select the agenda item on which you would like to speak. You will then receive an email prior to the meeting with information on how to comment.
• If you would like to send a comment to the Board of Trustees on an agenda item, please use this form. Responses to this form will need to be submitted before 4:00 p.m. on June 17, 2020. As this form is for sharing feedback, you will not receive a reply.
