Capistrano Valley Diver Named CIF Division 1 Champion

CUSD divers showed big last week, with Capistrano Valley, Dana Hills, and Aliso Niguel High School divers performing in CIF-SS Division 1.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Capistrano Unified School District shared their student diver's recent success in the 2019 CIF Division 1 Diving Championships held at the end of April.

Markie Hopkins, earned her way to being named the 2019 CIF Division 1 Diving Champion for 2019.

"Markie earned a winning score of 582.10 in the Championship on May," Capistrano Unified School District spokesperson Ryan Burris said. "This is the second time in four years that she has earned the honor."

Fellow CUSD students Brooke Earley, (579.90 score) Aliso Niguel High School sophomore and Charlotte Bowen (566.75 score) of Dana Hills High School also put on quite the performance at the CIF-SS Division 1 Girls Championships, Burris said.

"I like that the scores were high and everyone was pushing each other to do their best," Hopkins told the Orange County Register.

Other winners included Alexandra Barnes of Santa Margarita High School and Savannah Stocker, El Toro's Division 1 and state champion of the 2018 season.
