CHP Assists Stranded Family In San Juan Capistrano

A family on vacation from Brazil received special help from the San Juan Capistrano CHP officers, this week, in a random act of kindness.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Driving the California freeways is scary enough for some travelers, but when a Brazilian family on vacation experienced a blown tire on the southbound 5 freeway, this family of five was in a desperate situation.

The CHP received a call that there was a disabled vehicle stuck in the center divider at southbound 5 and Camino Capistrano, information officer Rafael Reynoso reported. Dispatch sent officer Barnard to conduct a traffic break, enabling the family to move off the freeway and onto the shoulder.

When Barnard learned that the family did not have roadside assistance, he felt for their plight, Reynoso said.

"The group had no friends or family in the area, and Officer Barnard offered to let them use his own personal roadside assistance membership to change out their vehicle's blown tire," he said.

A little random act of kindness ensuring this group had a happy California vacation. Well done, officers!
