CUSD Has No Money for Text Books
Despite record high revenues, CUSD states that it does not have sufficient funding to buy new math text books for every Algebra II/Trig student in high school.

Only Aliso Niguel and Dana Hills High School will receive new Algebra II/Trig books. All other high schools will continue to use the 2005 7th edition. Copies of this edition are so outdated that the books are no longer available through either Pearson or after-market outlets

Total Cost for the two schools is $8,000
The $17,000 raise given to Deputy Superintendent Clark Hampton would have paid for a math book for every high school student.

CUSDWatch Comment
While District Revenues are at record highs, CUSD has chosen to give employees their 5th consecutive year of across the Board compensation increases to employees totaling over $150 million dollars per year.
CUSD has chosen to give the entire record high revenues to employees, rather than spend it to reduce class sizes, restore programs, or fix and maintain facilities.
CUSD has $189 million dollars in emergency repairs and maintenance that is being ignored.

CUSD has in fact started to layoff employees such that the staff to student ratios on campuses are no longer safe.

CUSD is now relying on fundraising and donations to pay for all core educational programs and textbooks.
Since 2007-08 CUSD has relied on fundraising and donations to pay for Art - Music and Science. This is the first time I have seen them add PE and History to the list of needs they cannot fund.
Also alarming is the fundraising to pay substitute teachers salaries so that teachers can attend conferences.

CUSD raises $4 million per year through fundraising and donations... not for programs that are above and beyond what CUSD is constitutionally required to pay for out of the half billion dollars we all ready pay to the state in taxes.
Taxpayers are being forced to pay twice for a minimum education for students, so that the entire budget can go to employee compensation.
Relying on fundraising and donations to pay for core educational programs creates wealth based inequities within the district that are not legal, and violate the constitutional rights of those school children who's parents cannot afford to provide them with the same educational opportunity.
The continued lack of adequate funding has resulted in a notable decline in the academic performance of ALL students across ALL demographics.
The Greed of PUBLIC EMPLOYEE UNIONS has taken the California Public Education System from Number One in the World to 46th in the Nation in math and 44th in the Nation in English.
Fundraising and Donations do not make CUSD a better District.
