CUSD Provides Students With An Opportunity to Complete A- G Requirements During The Summer

Only 54% of students graduating from the Capistrano Unified School District complete A- G Requirements. Many parents may not be aware of the factΒ that completion of A- G Requirements is mandatory for all students wishing to enter the California State University system or the University of California college system.

The District is Providing two Summer Opportunities to Students:Β 

Pacific Coast High School (PCHS):Β All coursework is online

July 1 through August 8, 2014

  • Students may enroll inΒ up to 10 unitsΒ of credit through PCHS to remediate a D or F grade or to make up credit deficiencies.
  • Students taking a mathematics course will have to take anΒ in-person final at the CUSD Education Center in San Juan Capistrano during the final week of the semester.
  • These are CSU/UC approved A-G credits.Β 
  • Incoming Freshmen with impacted 2014-15 schedules may take Health with approval of current Academic Advisor.
  • Incoming 11thΒ and 12thΒ graders with impacted 2014-15 schedules may take up to 10 units of Physical Education. Must have Academic Advisor approval.
  • Course registration may close early, if full.
  • Students mayΒ notΒ enroll in courses at both ACCESS and PCHS.

  • Incoming 10th – 12thΒ graders: April 1β€”May 23, 2014Β (Due to your current Academic Advisor by May 23, 2014)
  • Incoming 9thΒ graders: April 30β€”May 23, 2014Β (Due to your current Academic Advisor by May 23, 2014)
  • PrintΒ andΒ completeΒ ALLΒ July/AugustΒ Enrollment Forms.
    • Make sure your email address is legible and working. Students will receive all correspondence by email.
    • Enroll early. Some courses may close earlier, if they fill.
    • Incomplete applications will not be processed and may not be returned by PCHS.
    • Parent and student must sign forms.
  • Save the Course Login pages.
  • Read the July-August Subsidiary Agreements (Not necessary to print)
  • Give completed packet to Academic Advisor/Counselor.Β  Academic Advisor/Counselor will review paperwork andΒ  initial approval of courses.
  • Academic Advisor/Counselor will give completed packet to the Capistrano USD Summer School Coordinator, for signature on the CHEP/PCHS Verification Form.
  • All Enrollment Forms will be submitted to PCHS.
  • Incomplete forms or forms with missing signatures CANNOT be processed.Β  Your Academic Advisor must receive completed forms by no later thanΒ 3:00 PM on May 23, 2014.Β Β FORMS MAY NOT BE FAXED or EMAILED!Β Β  Enrollments are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.Β  Classes may fill and close prior to this date.
  • Once enrollment forms are submitted, adds, drops, and changes must be done on an Add/Drop FormΒ 
    ADDSΒ andΒ CHANGESΒ must be made byΒ June 25, 2014.Β 
  • DROPSΒ may be made throughΒ August 1, 2014.Β Β Add/Drop formsΒ may be faxed to 714.508.0215.

CUSD SUMMER CREDIT RECOVERY:Β Β Coursework is online with MANDATORY weekly tests taken in person

Classes offeredΒ (5 UNITS ONLY):

  1. CCPΒ All students entering grades 10-12 and incoming freshmen with impacted 2014-15 schedules (with Academic Advisor Approval.Β  May be taken for original credit or remediation
  2. a-g BiologyΒ with assigned lab required, D or F remediation only
  3. a-g EnglishΒ (English I-III) D or F remediation only
  4. a-g Geometry: D or F remediation only
  5. Late Grads: all classes
    • Students will be required to attend an orientation during the week of
      June 30-July 2, 2014. Time will be assigned. No exceptions.
  • Failure to attend orientation will result in being dropped from course
  • Students will be assigned a one hour testing time, Mondays or Tuesdays; between 8am-12pm; no requests taken
    • All class meetings will be held at Aliso Niguel High School.
    • In addition to completing all assignments, students will be required to attend class once a week for examinations.
    • All coursework must be completed by Tuesday, July 29, 2014.
    • Students work at their own pace and may be able to complete their class prior to Tuesday, July 29, 2014.
    • Students needing more than 5 units must enroll at PCHS or ACCESS.
      • May only enroll in CUSD and PCHS or ACCESS if taking CCP.
    • Priority for enrollment will be given to students entering grades 10-12 who require remediation of a course.
    • Incoming freshmen with impacted schedules may be enrolled on a space available basis.

Registration:

  • Incoming 10th – 12thΒ graders: April 1β€”June 4, 2014
  • Incoming 9thΒ graders: April 30β€”June 4, 2014
  • Register through current Academic Advisor.
  • Enroll early. Course space is limited. Enrollment may close prior to June 4, 2014 if program is filled.
