CVCS' Wilhelm Takes Gold at Weightlifting Competition

Senior sets two personal records in finishing first among 20-unders in Sacramento, where he and three team members qualify for National Junior Championships in Texas.

Senior Phillip Wilhelm of Capistrano Valley Christian School took first place in the 20-and-under age division at the 2011 Pacific Weightlifting Assn. Junior Championships on Jan. 16 at Sacramento High School.

 Wilhelm traveled to the event with the school’s Iron Man Weightlifting Team, coached by his brother Chris, to compete in the event that drew 50 competitors, ages 14 to 20,  including international level lifters.

 Three members of the CVCS team – Wilhelm, junior Tim Aney and sophomore Kean Coleman -- qualified from the meet to compete in the 2011 National Junior Weightlfting Championships, Feb. 18-20, in Texas.

“This meet was a great representation of the bright future that is ahead for many of the club's young lifters,” Wilhelm wrote in a press release.

Wilhelm set personal records on his snatch lift at 113 kg. (250 pounds) and his clean and jerk at 145 kg. (320) for a combined weight of 258 kg. (570). Aney finished second in the 17-under group, setting a PR for his clean and jerk lift at 93 kg.(205).

Freshman Mike Houtenville, participating in his first competition, set  personal records for both his snatch and clean and jerk lifts.

Mike Houtenville -- snatch 50 kg. (110 pounds); clean and jerk 57 kg. (126)

Kean Coleman -- snatch  60 kg. (132); clean and jerk 70 kg. (154)

Alex Thacker -- snatch 68 kg. (150); clean and jerk 85 kg. (187)

Tim Aney -- snatch 73 kg. (161); clean and jerk 93 kg. (205)

Phillip Wilhelm -- snatch 113kg (250).; clean and jerk 145 kg. (320.
