Writing College Admissions Essays: Free Workshop

The Write Direction is a nonprofit that offers free workshops for students working on essays for college admissions and scholarships.

The Write Direction is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that wants to make the college admissions process a little fairer for kids who can't afford private college counseling services. High school juniors and seniors can sign up for a free workshop Thursday, January 5 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Orange County Public Library, 30902 La Promesa in Rancho Santa Margarita.

See www.thewritedirection.org for more information and to register. Workshops are limited to 20 students and last two hours. We won't write--or rewrite--a student's essay, but we'll help with the process of how to write a strong personal statement. Many students have no idea where to begin, so we'll help with brainstorming topics, structuring the essay, and much more. Students are also able to sign up for free or low-cost one-on-one counseling after a workshop. Kids from wealthier families shouldn't have all the advantages when it comes to college admissions. The Write Direction works to level the playing field so all kids have an equal shot.
