Doublelift To Play In Gaming Championship After Mother's Murder
Online gamer 'Doublelift' wil play in Miami championships Sunday after his brother was charged in the brutal murder of their mother in OC.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Gamer Yilang "Peter" Peng — more commonly known in gaming circles as team Liquid's "Doublelift" — promised fans he would play in the NA LCS final games this weekend following the brutal murder of his mother. His brother was charged Wednesday with murdering their mother and attempting to murder their father with a butcher knife over the weekend.
"Peter" Peng spoke out via Twitter about the tragic blow to his family. After grieving and absorbing the news, the "League of Legends" star reached out to his more than 800,000 followers in a statement:
"This weekend I received some terrible news. My older brother attacked both of my parents with a knife. As a result of this attack, my mom passed away and my dad was seriously hurt and is now recovering in hospital.
I'm still processing this news and joining up with my dad and little brother to make sure they're ok and the proper arrangements are being made. I'll likely be quiet on social media while I work through this. I hope you all understand and support me as you always have in the past.

In the above YouTube interview from 2013, Peter Peng explained not only the difficult dynamic of growing up in a strict Asian household, but also the difficulty of declaring to his family that he wanted to game for a living. According to his video statement, his older brother often was his rock during that time.

According to the Orange County District Attorney's report, Yihong Peng was "behaving oddly" at a gym in San Juan Capistrano last Friday morning, prompting sheriff's deputies to give the defendant a ride home.
Later in the day, the butcher-knife wielding defendant got into an argument with his mother and father and chased them out of their home before stabbing the victims multiple times. He then attempted to stab another man nearby in a parked vehicle, prosecutors allege. He's also accused of attempting to carjack another bystander, who was cut several times as he resisted.
The defendant's father was taken to an area hospital in critical condition but was expected to survive.
Doublelift and Team Liquid will take on 100 Thieves in the NA LCS Finals on Sunday, April 8 at 4pm ET.
