SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A 24-year-old man died Sunday after he reportedly drove a vehicle the wrong way and crashed into another car on the 5 Freeway in San Juan Capistrano, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol received calls around 1:45 a.m. that a white BMW was traveling southbound on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway near Sand Canyon Avenue, CHP Officer Jose Lopez said.
The vehicle transitioned onto the 5 Freeway, still going the wrong way, at a high rate of speed in the carpool lane, passed the Corona del Mar (73) Freeway and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry.
