Fourplex Fire Sunday In San Juan Capistrano

18 people were displaced after a fourplex fire raged through a San Juan Capistrano home on Sunday.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — The wail of fire engines and column of smoke drew San Juan Capistrano residents from their homes Sunday afternoon as a fourplex residence caught fire on the 32000 block of Paseo Carolina. The non-injury blaze was extinguished by firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority.

Firefighters responded about 1:45 p.m. to the two-story building in the 32000 block of Paseo Carolina, OCFA Capt. Daryll Milliot said.

"The fire started on the ground floor, but quickly spread to the second floor," Milliot said. The OCFA sent about 35 firefighters, six engines, two truck two fire investigators and two battalion chiefs along with a medical unit.

The building's occupants managed to get out before firefighters arrived, he said.

The flames were extinguished by just before 3 p.m. Firefighters remained on scene for hours later, mopping up and investigating the cause.Due to the nature of the residence housing several families, a total of 17 adults and one child were displaced by the fire, Milliot said.
