Hesperia Christian Has Too Much on the Ball for CVCS

Freshman quarteback Riley Babick completed 18 of 30 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown, with one interception, and carried the ball 21 times for 133 yards and four touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as Capistrano Valley Christian fell to visiting Hesperia Christian, 60-34, in a nonleague eight-man football game Friday night at at San Clemente High.
Hesperia Christian (3-1), ranked sixth among eight-man teams in the Southland, led at halftime, 47-20, and had opened a 60-20 lead before the Eagles (2-2) scored twice in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore wide receiver Mike Updegeraff had six catches for 41 yards, freshman tailback Josh Anderson had five catches for 34 yards and a touchdown, and freshman receiver AJ Discenzo had four receptions for 34 yards.
"Hesperia Christian is as good as their ranking," Capistrano Valley's first-year coach Dan Dodd said. "[They have] seven senior starters.... Too much experience.

Dodd said he was "proud of our kids" and that they "battled the whole game."
Capistrano Valley Christian has a bye this upcoming week, then opens Express League play on Oct. 8 with a game against Southlands Christian in Walnut.
