Learn All About Seeds At SJC Ecology Center Event

Want to revive the art of seed saving? Residents can attend a two-day workshop at the Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano to learn more.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Gardening enthusiasts of Orange County can learn more about the art of seed saving, after the Ecology Center announced its plans to host a two-day intensive workshop this June.

The workshop will be held by Don Tipping, the founder and operator of Seven Seeds Farms and Siskiyou Seeds, according to a news release. Tipping's 100 percent organic family farm in southwest Oregon grows over 700 varieties of vegetables, flowers, herbs and grains. His seed company, Siskiyou Seeds, has been a professional seed operation for over a decade.

The workshop will educate residents on the history of seed saving, seed biology, harvesting and techniques.

Residents who attend the workshop are encouraged to save their favorite seeds, as there will be a seed swap at the end of the workshop.

The two-day workshop is open to both beginners and experienced gardeners and farmers, the release said.

The workshop takes place June 11 and June 12 at the Ecology Center, 32701 Alipaz St., San Juan Capistrano. Residents seeking more information on the event or registration should visit the Ecology Center's website.
