Levee Improvement Project Continues In San Juan Creek

Orange County Public Works office wanted residents to be aware of some added noise in the vicinity of Stonehill Drive and Camino Capistrano.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — If you've heard increased noise in the area of Camino Capistrano between Avenida Aeropuerto and Stonehill Drive, that's because Orange County public works is busy installing anchor columns to the previously installed steel sheet piles along the San Juan Levee.

The east side of the levee, near the Capistrano Valley Mobile Estates area was receiving the bulk of the work at this time, they said.

Anchor columns, placed about 9-feet apart, parallel the sheet piles and complete that protective wall along the San Juan Creek Levee system. All work together to increase flood protection for residents in the area, they said.

"The improvements are necessary to enhance the aging levee that helps safeguard residents, businesses and property from flood waters," public works spokesperson Shannon Widor said.

Work began on the anchor columns project earlier this month and was expected to continue into February, and work hours were scheduled weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
