Local Company Links New Jersey Jurors to the Courts by Text

No more driving or calling in for service. A text message lets jurors know whether they're needed at the courthouse.

A San Juan Capistrano company is helping jurors in New Jersey check if they’re needed for a trial via text.

TextPower, the company run by former Mayor Mark Nielsen, inked a deal earlier this year to provide texting communication between the New Jersey State Courts and the jury pool.

Since first being made available in June, 50,000 people have signed up after getting the call-to-jury-service notices, according to a press release from TextPower. The state averages a bit more than 200,000 people reporting to jury service each year.

When standby jurors sign up for the service, they get text messages reminding them of their service coming up a week in advance, according to the press release. Then, when the big day occurs, rather than showing up or even calling in, a text will inform jurors if their presence is not needed.
