Logan, Get Out, Shack Top First Weekend Of March Box Office

"Logan," "Get Out," "The Shack" on top at the box office this weekend.

Hugh Jackman's return to the role of Wolverine in the "X-Men" sequel "Logan" dominated North American theaters over the weekend, opening with $88.4 million, according to final figures released Monday.

The big-money opening set a record for an R-rated March debut, according to box-office tracker Score.

The comedy-horror hybrid "Get Out" slipped into second place, earning $28.2 million between Friday and Sunday, followed by the more sentimental "The Shack," which opened with $16.2 million.

"The Lego Batman Movie" earned $11.7 million over the weekend to place fourth, followed by the thriller "John Wick: Chapter Two," with $4.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were "Before I Fall" ($4.7 million); "Hidden Figures" ($3.8 million); "The Great Wall" ($3.6 million); "Fifty Shades Darker" ($3.5 million); and "La La Land" ($3 million).
